Tirreno-Adriatico Route Revealed, Key Team Race

Thursday 02 February 2012 - 18:49

The 2012 Tirreno-Adriatico route was revealed this week, and consists of a well balanced race where sprinters, climbers, and time trialists can all shine. Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling-Team rider Peter Velits said earlier this month he is targeting Tirreno-Adriatico. Some other riders will use the race as an important preparation for Milan-San Remo. The course consists of a 16.9 km team trial to begin the stage race, as well as a 9.3 km individual time trial. There first two road stages look to favor sprinters. The following stages may favor those that prefer racing uphill. There is also a rolling stage, in which a breakaway may try to prevent a bunch sprint for the peloton. The queen stage will certainly be a challenging climber's course, including the 14.5 km, 7 percent average gradient ascent Prati di Tivo.
