Tour de Pologne: Vakoč in the mix

The headwind complicated matters a bit, but Petr Vakoč carefully bided his time on the 4% gradient before kicking out with 200 meters to go and taking fourth on the line, a result that saw him move up in the rankings, same time as teammate Luxembourg Champion Bob Jungels, who remains the best-placed Deceuninck – Quick-Step rider ahead of the last two stages.

“The guys did a great job and controlled the break in the final, bringing it back on the circuit. I arrived at the start of the last climb around 20th position, but under the flamme rouge I was already sixth wheel. I made my move with 200 meters remaining and passed many guys, but unfortunately, I faded 20 meters from the line and I lost the podium. Despite this, I am happy I am happy with my effort and that I could fight again for victory; a top 5 in a World Tour race is a nice result, which gives me a lot of confidence. I hope other strong results will follow after today, especially as I feel the form is there”,  a delighted Petr said at the end of the stage.
