Two days after defending his ITT title, our rider also conquered the road race, taking his sixth win at the event.

Bob Jungels became only the fourth rider in history to come out on top at the Luxembourg Road Race at least six times, after Nicolas Frantz, Charly Gaul and Edy Schütz, thus completing the double at the National Championships for the fifth time in his career.

A sweltering day prompted the organisers to shorten the 175.1km-long event, which abounded in attacks right from the gun, despite the difficult conditions. Just forty-eight hours after time trialling to his third victory of the year, Jungels rode again a flawless solo race, staying at all times attentive at the front and dispatching his main group companions on the penultimate lap.

Eventually, the 26-year-old arrived at the finish in Soulevre one minute ahead of Kevin Geniets (Groupama-FDJ) and sealed his fourth success of a solid season which also witnessed victories at the Tour Colombia and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne.

“The high temperatures and the guys who came here straight from the Critérium du Dauphiné and Tour de Suisse made for a very tough race. It wasn’t easy today and being able to drop everybody in the final kilometers gives me a lot of satisfaction. I’m happy that after a hard Giro d’Italia I could put my arms again in the air and ensure another twelve months in this beautiful jersey”, said Bob, who will make his next outing at the second edition of the Adriatica Ionica Race (24-28 June).
