The 32-year-old Belgian was forced to abandon the Spanish race in the opening kilometers.

Following his crash in Monday’s Volta a Catalunya 178.4km-long stage 1, Pieter Serry was taken to the hospital in Calella for examination.

We are happy to report that he has only incurred minor injuries and abrasions, with no fractures or breaks. Pieter, who was making at the 100th edition of the World Tour event his sixth appearance of the season, will continue to be monitored by our medical team overnight but we are hoping to see him back on his bike soon.
